Manipur University
Manipur University was established on June 5, 1980, as a State University and later became a
Central University on October 13, 2005. Currently, the University has 119 affiliated colleges,
including three medical colleges and the Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) as its constituent
college. With nine Schools of Studies, 47 departments, and seven Centres of Studies, the University
has a total student strength of 7,396. In 2023, it was accredited with a ‘B+’ grade by the National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Dedicated to academic excellence, the University
provides research opportunities in humanities, natural and physical sciences, social sciences, forestry
and other allied disciplines in the educational programs. It plays a crucial role in developing skilled
professionals, particularly for the North Eastern Region, and is committed to improving the social
and economic well-being of the people of Manipur.
Nestled in the historic town of Canchipur, Imphal, its 287.53-acre campus is surrounded by
scenic beauty and cultural landmarks. Notable sites include Rasmandal, where the famous Ras Lila
dance was performed during Rajarshi Bhagyachandra’s reign, and Langthabal Konung, the palace
where Maharaja Gambhir Singh spent his last days after liberating Manipur from Burmese rule.
